	Gianluca Canettieri
	Nato a Viterbo il 26 febbraio 1968, si é laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia nel 1995 presso l’Università di Roma “la Sapienza. Nel 2000 ha conseguito il titolo di dottore di ricerca in Endocrinologia e Medicina Molecolare. Durante il dottorato ha lavorato come Visiting Fellow alla Johns Hopkins University, Baltimora, MD, dove ha svolto degli studi sulla regolazione genica del metabolismo degli ormoni tiroidei e il suo ruolo nella patogenesi dell’obesità ereditaria. Nel 2000 si é trasferito negli Stati Uniti come postdoctoral fellow presso il Salk Institute for Biological Studies di San Diego, CA. Qui ha svolto ricerche sui meccanismi di regolazione della trascrizione genica mediata dall’AMP ciclico e sui meccanismi molecolari responsabili del diabete e dell’obesità. Ha eseguito studi di terapia genica su modelli murini diabetici con vettori adenovirali, mediante i quali é riuscito ad ottenere dei risultati sorprendenti nel ripristino dei normali livelli di glicemia. É stato vincitore di varie borse di studio e premi. Nel 2003 e’ stato invitato presso l’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei ad illustrare i suoi risultati. Nel 2005 ha vinto il concorso “Rientro dei Cervelli” ed é tornato in Italia nei laboratori di Oncologia Molecolare del Dipartimento di Medicina Sperimentale dell’Università “La Sapienza” di Roma. Attualmente sta conducendo degli studi sui meccanismi molecolari ed epigenetici che causano la comparsa di tumori cerebellari e sta proseguendo gli studi iniziati negli Stati Uniti. Insegna terapia genica e produzione di molecole ricombinanti nei corsi di laurea specialistici, ed é tutor di studenti di Biologia, Medicina e Biotecnologie. Ha pubblicato su prestigiose riviste internazionali, quali Cell, Molecular Cell, Cell Metabolism, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Stuctural Biology etc. Ha scritto alcuni capitoli di libri di testo universitari. Ha un Impact factor di circa 200. Born in Viterbo, February 26th 1968. He got his MD degree in 1995 and his PhD degree in Endocrinoloy and Molecular Medicine in 2000 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. During his training he has worked as a Visiting Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, where he started out some studies on the genomic structure of genes involved in the regulation of thyroid hormone metabolism and their role in the pathogenesis of inherited Obesity. In 2000 he moved to the US as a postdoctoral fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, San Diego, CA. While at the Salk he has performed studies on the mechanisms of regulation of cAMP-mediated transcription and their role on the pathogenesis of Diabetes and Obesity. He has developed approaches of gene therapy with adenoviral vectors on mice models of diabetes and has been able to get remarkable results, by restoring the normal glucose levels on diabetic animals. He has been awarded with several fellowships and prizes. In 2003 has been invited to present his results by the National Academy of Science. In 2005 he has won the award “progetto rientro dei cervelli”, granted by the MIUR and has returned to Italy in the laboratories of Molecular Oncology, Department of Experimental Medicine, University of Rome, “La Sapienza”. He is currently performing studies on the molecular and epigenetic causes of cerebellar tumors and he is further developing the studies started in the United States. He is responsible for classes in Gene Therapy and Bioengineer, and is tutoring students of Biology, Medicine and Biotechnology. He has published on high-profile journals, such as Cell, Molecular Cell, Cell Metabolism, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Stuctural Biology etc., and has written some chapters of academic books. His Impact factor is about 200.
